Governance Academy

The 2026 LEAD Ohio Governance Academy is a comprehensive 30+ hour training for newly elected or appointed public officials. While there are a number of resources and trainings available to progressive candidates, there is little support for our candidates after they win their elections or are appointed to office. The Governance Academy will bridge the gap from candidacy to public office. This Academy will provide the resources and tools to become skillful and successful public officials, building on the skills and tools utilized during candidacy. 

The 2026 cohort will include municipal and school board elected officials and will cover the following:

• Transitioning from candidacy to governance

• Learning the legal and ethical rules of your office

• Setting expectations and learning the political landscape

• Building and maintaining relationships

• Understanding the board/council dynamics

• Setting agendas and policy-making

• Managing your brand

• Balancing commitments

• Turning promises into results and sharing wins

There is no cost to attend the training program, but there are a limited number of spots in each Academy. Acceptance into the LEAD Academy is competitive and requires a completed application.
